Jose Castillo, President and Spicy Guy at thinkjose, LLC and Co-Founder of Spark Plaza in Johnson City, is holding two meetings today in Knoxville to discuss the need for co-working space in the community. The exuberant speaker and entrepreneur has scheduled two events – one billed as a “Co-working Hangout” from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at Remedy Coffee on Jackson Avenue and another billed as “‘The Co-working Conundrum: Is There Life Outside the Cubicle” starting at 5 p.m. at the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center on Market Square.

A company that five Lee University students launched to help impoverished people earn a living in South Asia has won a regional faith-based business competition for startups. Remedy Flies also took home $20,000 Saturday night and has a shot at winning $50,000 next month at Elevate’s national final competition in California. The startup, which will make fishing flies, came out ahead of seven other teams during the Southern regional contest, which was hosted by Covenant College and held at EPB.
Knoxville Entrepreneur Center
MediaWorks is a selective, highly immersive instructional and mentorship driven 12 week program for startups in the digital media sector, which includes digital video, augmented reality, digital signage, digital audio, video games, or digital art. The program begins May 18th and culminates on August 11th with a public presentation. Demo Day is an opportunity for the companies that have completed the accelerator to showcase their ideas to supporters, customers, and possible investors.
Trim, a new menswear brand, will launch on March 31st on Kickstarter. “Trim serves to solve the Triple F Dilemma which is the compromise most men face: having to choose between fashion, fit, and function. Never all three,” Moriah Lutz-Tveite, Director of Operations for Trim Menswear wrote. Solving the dilemma of the perfect fitting shirt for the athletic or trim man that is also fashionable and functional for an active lifestyle, Trim created a collection for Kickstarter featuring three versatile denim button-ups utilizing premium stretch fabric for ultimate comfort.
