Chattanooga-based, rapidly growing cloud software company Skuid recently announced the formation of a new subsidiary in Switzerland called Skuid CH AG. The move represents the second international expansion this year. Charlie Brock, CEO of Launch Tennessee, a public-private partnership whose leaders focus on supporting the development of high-growth companies in the state, said that it is great to see a Chattanooga startup scale their operations both nationally and internationally.
Venture Nashville Connections
On Monday, Yvonne Gilbrech Sullivan began her new role as Entrepreneur in Residence and Alumni Relations lead for the Nashville Entrepreneur Center. Sullivan — Angel investor, startup mentor and former financial-services exec in Dutch-flag companies — told Venture Nashville yesterday she’ll be advancing proposals for new tools and resources for local entrepreneurs in EC accelerator participants and, eventually, for teams in more mature entrepreneurial companies in the region. She said it was premature to elaborate.
The Commercial Appeal
A $1 million grant from FedEx will support National Urban League workforce development efforts. The grant will aid entry level and seasoned job seekers in programs including job training, GED services, internships, professional certifications and services to prepare individuals for long-term employment. It also will support Project Ready, which prepares middle and high school students for 21st century jobs.
Venture capital activity is flourishing in Nashville, creating a growing supply of funded companies that contribute to economic growth and furthering the city as a hub for innovation. Nashville Capital Network (NCN) and the Nashville Health Care Council issued a comprehensive report on the local venture capital environment, titled “Nashville Venture Capital Report: 2005 – 2015.” The report, which was released at the Council and NCN’s annual panel discussion event, explores venture capital investments in Nashville-based companies over the last decade with a special focus on venture capital investment in Nashville health care companies.
Local investment firm Petra Capital Partners has partnered with a Charlotte company to fund a Washington, D.C.-area acquisition in the risk management and data analytics arenas. Petra and Frontier Capital have backed PlanetRisk’s purchase of Analytic Strategies, which is based nearby in Virginia. Ten-year-old Analytic Strategies markets enterprise analytics, data system management, operations research and other services to federal government agencies.
