EPIcenter Germantown Launches New Co-Working Space, Resources for Entrepreneurs

The City of Germantown and EPIcenter, through a public-private partnership, have opened a collaborative working and business space in Germantown’s West Poplar Avenue District. Located in Carrefour at Kirby Woods, at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Kirby, EPIcenter Germantown offers collaborative co-working opportunities to entrepreneurs. The facility is intended to provide a cost-effective work environment as well as programming and expert support to encourage the growth of start-ups and small businesses.

FedEx Gets Crucial Approval for Huge Merger with TNT Express

Memphis-based FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) was granted crucial European Commission approval for its huge merger with Dutch carrier TNT Express Friday. “We are extremely pleased to receive the European Commission’s unconditional approval,” said David Binks, regional president Europe, FedEx Express, in a news release. “We believe the combination of TNT Express and FedEx will provide significant value to the employees, customers and shareholders of both companies.”

iQuity Labs Secures $2 Million in Seed Funding

IQuity Labs, a company specializing in leading-edge diagnostic tests for autoimmune disease and related conditions, announced it has secured $2 million in seed funding. The funding will support the launch of IQuity’s test panels, which confirm the presence or absence of disease at the onset of symptoms. “People often search for years to find answers that will help them address symptoms related to autoimmune disease,” said Chase Spurlock, PhD, CEO of IQuity Labs. “It’s our goal to equip providers with a tool to diagnose patients faster so they can lead happier, healthier lives.”

Maxwell Teams Up with St. Louis Firm on Fintech Fund

Local company PA Group USA has acquired area business Cloud Nine Solutions. PA Group USA is a Gold Certified Partner for Microsoft Dynamics AX, and Cloud Nine Solutions is a Certified Partner for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Microsoft Dynamics AX and Dynamics CRM are different software platforms, so PA Group acquiring Cloud Nine Solutions allows for an expansion of services.

University of Memphis Institutes Team Up for Biologistics Partnership

Two research institutes at the University of Memphis – the FedEx Institute of Technology and the Intermodal Freight Transportation Institute – have teamed up to launch a biologistics partnership. The FedEx institute is referring to partnerships like the new one around biologistics as “clusters,” research areas around which the institute wants to collect projects, research efforts and programming. It’s part of a push by the institute to try and put itself at the center of innovation in the city, according to Cody Behles, the institute’s manager of innovation and research support.
