Application Deadline Approaches for JusticeXL

The month of demo days across Tennessee is underway, so it’s also a good time for entrepreneurs looking to get into an accelerator to think about applying. JusticeXL, the newest accelerator in Tennessee, has its first application deadline coming up on Aug. 14.  But unlike the usual sort of accelerator that one might initially expect, this particular program is geared for startups with an interest in the justice system.

iCitizen Gauges Voter Opinion with Real-Time Survey During Last Night’s GOP Debate

Politics is certainly in the air for Nashville today, but in the midst of the election coverage in the Music City, the first GOP presidential debate will also be on television tonight. For those who will be following this potentially colorful debate, iCitizen, a Nashville-based civic engagement platform, will be conducting a real-time survey during the debate.  The full polling results will be published on their website on Friday morning, but the survey results can be viewed real-time as well.

One of the tenets of successful start-ups – in particular disruptively innovative start-ups — is that they will likely have to pivot their strategy several times – or several dozen times – to find the exact right consumers of their products or services. Sometimes young companies have to pivot completely away from their first intended audience; but sometimes, finding that perfect consumer is only a few small pivots away. Though some business gurus think the pivot is just an excuse for bad strategy, bad implementation or bad data, many others think it’s an inevitable consequence of searching for – and finding — the “right” mix of consumers at the right time for their products.

U.S. Digital Service’s Kathy Pham to Participate Via Webcast in Girls Day of Code

The girls attending the Girls Day of Code, either in the 12 cities or via the online portal on Aug. 8, will get to really see what an engineer looks like. Computer scientist Kathy Pham of the White House’s U.S. Digital Service team will join the Girls Day of Code events through a webcast. Kathy has previously worked for IBM as well as Google and was the guest of the First Lady at this year’s State of the Union address.
