LaunchTN Announces 2016-2017 University Venture Challenge Partners

Nashville, Tenn., November 28, 2016 – Launch Tennessee (LaunchTN) announced today the second annual Statewide University Venture Challenge (UVC). Following a submission process, LaunchTN has selected 20 entrepreneurial focused competitions that are being hosted across 13 Tennessee-based universities.

The UVC launched in 2016 to create a more connected entrepreneurial community by engaging existing university programs and support up-and-coming entrepreneurial programs. LaunchTN will be offering up to $4,000 per competition in sponsorship funds to schools participating in the statewide challenge.

The selected universities and pitch competitions are:

Winners from selected partner competitions are invited to apply for the Statewide University Venture Challenge. This past year LaunchTN awarded prize money in the following categories: Commercialized Technology, Technology Enabled, Social Enterprise and Lifestyle businesses, with the winners previously announced here.

New this year, LaunchTN will host a 36|86 Student Edition in correlation with their annual 36|86 conference in June. After completing an electronic application, finalists will be selected and invited to pitch at the event to a panel of judges. Additional information regarding eligibility and the application process can be found on LaunchTN’s website.

This latest initiative is a complement to the existing Specialist Program and another way for LaunchTN to engage more students within the established entrepreneurial community across Tennessee. Created in 2014, The Specialist Program provides internship opportunities for college students, allowing them to work within one of the state’s entrepreneur centers or with an existing startup company. To date, over 80 students representing universities from across the country have gone through LaunchTN’s Specialist Program. 2017 applications for Spring & Summer opportunities are currently open.
