Announcing New Hire of Director of Capital Formation and Internal Appointment for Director of Entrepreneurship & Innovation

Nashville, TN., August 11, 2016 – Launch Tennessee (LaunchTN) announced today the hire of its new Director of Capital Formation, John Lanahan. This new hire comes after the recent departure of LaunchTN’s former Director of Entrepreneurship & Capital Formation, Jason Denenberg, who served with LaunchTN for four years and left in July 2016 to devote full-time attention to his startup.

Lanahan was previously a Senior Associate with LaunchCapital in New York City. In this role, he was responsible for performing due diligence on potential opportunities, sourcing new deal flow, and aiding current portfolio companies’ industry research and mentorship. His investment thesis focused on companies with strong teams, initial revenue model and proof of concept. He graduated from Middlebury College in 2008 with a B.A. in Economics and has a finance background.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the talented Launch Tennessee team that is working to foster a startup ecosystem, driving new economic growth and creating jobs throughout the region,” says Lanahan.  He will be moving from New York City to Nashville, with plans to start full-time at LaunchTN in September. Lanahan realizes the opportunity in Tennessee  becoming a leading entrepreneurial hub. “I’ve spent the last seven years working in venture capital and from an investor’s point of view, I see the state of Tennessee as a place with massive upside and the potential to be the regional hub for startup investment across the Southeast.”

In addition, Jill Van Beke, current Director of Innovation & Commercialization, will be taking over the responsibilities of the Director of Entrepreneurship. In this role, Van Beke will be managing the unique statewide network of entrepreneur centers as well as leading other programming geared toward helping entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses.

LaunchTN CEO Charlie Brock commented, “John’s experience working with entrepreneurs and his investor connections throughout the country will further our efforts to make Tennessee the best state in the Southeast for startups. I am thrilled to add him to the team as well as to further expand Jill Van Beke’s responsibilities. Jill has been integral to our successes at LaunchTN over the past several years and will lead our efforts to create a world class network of entrepreneur centers across the state.”
